Radcliffe finish season on a high
The Boro finish 2017/18 with a win
Radcliffe ended the season in the best possible way as they beat play off bound Prescot Cables 1-0 at Valerie Park on the final day of the season.
A Louis Myers’s lob was enough for Jon Macken’s side to collect all three points as they punished a wasteful Cables side.
The win confirmed a twentieth-place finish for the Boro. Prescot face Trafford in the play offs as they aim to grab the final promotion place.
Both sides started the game brightly but It was Radcliffe who had the best of early opportunities.
Liam Wood and Kingsley Williams both squandered chances to take an early lead.
Reece Fishwick had the best chances for Prescot but he lacked composure in the final third to take the lead.
Radcliffe continued to have the better of the first half, their continued pressure put Prescot on the back foot for the majority of the game.
Williams had another chance mid-way through the half but he could only blaze over the Cables goal.
Louis Myers also had a huge opportunity to break the deadlock but his header sailed over.
On 29 minutes Myers did open the scoring as he lobbed the on running Marcus Burgess to give Boro a well-deserved lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as both sides continued to share possession.
Jimmy Daniels had a huge chance to double his sides lead on 52 minutes but he blazed over after a period of continued pressure from Boro.
Rick Smith was Boro’s saviour on 65 minutes as he blocked a goal bound shot after a good spell of pressure from Prescot.
The Cables continued to waste opportunities as the final whistle loomed but they couldn’t find a way past Keane in the Radcliffe goal.
Centre back Callum Grogan was sent off late in the game after a needless challenge on the Cables forward and will now miss the start of the next season.
Jon Macken was very happy with his sides performance as they ended the season in the best possible way.
