The Boro march on in The FA Cup
Radcliffe make it past the First Qualifying Round for first time in 8 years.

Radcliffe’s winning start to the season continues as they see off EVO-STIK Premier side Stalybridge Celtic 1-0 in The Emirates FA Cup First Round Qualifier at the Neuven Stadium.
The Boro made it six wins on the bounce in all competitions this season with a win over Stalybridge Celtic in The FA Cup.
The away side got off to the better start after 4 minutes as Stalybridge captain Danny Brady won a header and powered it against the crossbar and it went over.
The home side went forward in the 12th minute when a Scott Metcalfe free kick met the head of Ben Wharton who headed downwards towards goal but James Aspinal in the Celtic goal managed to fumble it wide.
Radcliffe continued to attack the ball in the 15th minute as the ball bounced through to Tunde Owolabi but his volley went agonisingly wide of the post.
Radcliffe continued to attack Stalybridge in the 20th minute Tunde Owolabi went down the left and cut in but his low drilled shot to the front post was saved comfortably by James Aspinal.
The Boro’s dominant start paid off in the 29th minute as a Scott Metcalfe free kick found the head of Ben Wharton who headed back across goal and into the top of the net.
The visitors had the first chance of the second half as in the 46th minute the ball was cut back to the edge of the box for Steve Irwin who hit his shot high over the bar.
Radcliffe wasted a golden opportunity to double their lead in the 50th minute as Tunde Owolabi got through the Celtic defence but his close range shot was saved by James Aspinal. Then George West’s follow up was hit across the face of goal missing the players in the middle of the box.
The away side looked for a reply in the 59th minute as Steve Irwin broke through the Boro defence and tries to lob Ollie Martin in the Radcliffe goal but he comes out and puts the attacker off and the ball goes just wide of the post.
The Celts continued to look for an equaliser in the 67th minute as the ball fell to Michael Clarke from a corner but he could only manage to blast his effort wide from close range.
Stalybridge’s late pressure continued as a free kick was whipped in on 67 minutes and was met by the head of Ross Dent who headed just inches over the bar.
A late push for a goal from Celtic in the 80th minute saw Chris Sharp get down the right and cut in before hitting a low shot towards the far bottom corner but Ollie Martin is equal to it and made a superb save to keep Radcliffe ahead.
Radcliffe maintain their unbeaten start with a tight 1-0 win against Stalybridge Celtic at the Neuven Stadium, The draw for the Second Qualifying Round will be revealed on Monday Lunchtime and the next game for the boro is a Bottom v Top clash in the table as we travel to Prescot to play Skelmersdale United on Wednesday night. The next round of the FA Cup is the weekend of the 22nd September.
